On May 26, 2017, Professor Zhishan Bo from Beijing Normal University was invited by the Engineering Research Center for Nano Materials of Henan University and he brought a lecture titled as “The Conjugate Polymers: Design, Synthesis and Photovoltaic Properties”. The conference was presided by Professor Hua Wang of the Center. Some teachers and students from the Engineering Research Center for Nano Materials, Key Laboratory for Special Functional Materials, Natural Medicine Key Laboratory, and Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Department participated in the report. Prof. Bo has been in the field of conjugation materials for many years and a lot of excellent works have been published by his group. During the lecture, Prof. Bo systematically showed the ingenious design and synthesis of the complicated conjugated oligomers. Via the design and selection of the catalyst for the polymerization of thiophene system, an efficient catalyst was successfully obtained. With the combination of the polyfluorene and porphyrin, the high efficiency red light emitting materials was prepared and via the introduction of the larger steric side chain, the effect of fluorenone's defect on the luminescence system was successfully overcame. In addition, he has also done a lot of fantastic work in the field of molecular self-assembly.

Prof. Bo's report focused on the synthesis of conjugated polymer materials. The discussion was well-structured, and the content of the report was fascinating and shocking. The teachers and students enjoyed a rare academic exchange of organic conjugated materials. After the report, the teachers and students held in-depth discussions with Prof. Bo. The teachers and students at the meeting had a deep understanding of the synthetic method and the strategy for conjugated polymer design after the report.

Biography

Prof. Zhishan Bo was a researcher of the "Hundred People Program" of Institute of Chemistry Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is currently a doctoral tutor at College of Chemistry, Beijing Normal University. He is also the vice-president of the Chemistry Department and director of the Beijing Key Laboratory of Energy Conversion and Storage Materials. He is appointed as a distinguished professor by the Ministry of Education "Changjiang Scholar" . Prof. Bo received his bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctor's degree from Jilin University, and then worked as a postdoc in The Free University Berlin in Germany and North Carolina State University. He was a recipient of the "Outstanding Youth" Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2002. And he has presided National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program), many projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. At present, he mainly focuses the synthesis and performance research of conjugated polymer. He has published more than 170 academic papers in important international academic journals which has been cited more than 5,000 times, and h-factor is 36.
