On the morning of May 26, 2018, the third organic functional material salon organized by Engineering Research Center for Nanomaterials was successfully held in henan university in Zhongzhou Hotel. Prof. Chuanfeng Chen from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science, Prof. Yanhou Geng from Tianjin University, Prof. Zhaohui Wang from Tsinghua University, Prof. Zhen Li from Wuhan University, Prof. Zhaohui Wang from Tsinghua University, Prof. Xike Gao from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science, Prof. Lei Zhang from Beijing University of Chemical Technology are invited to attend the salon. Professor Hua Wang, the deputy director of Engineering Research Center for Nanomaterials first delivered the opening speech and then the report was presided by Prof. Zhen Li and Yanhou Geng.
Firstly, Prof. Yanhou Geng gave a report named “High Mobility Organic and Polymeric Semiconductor Materials”, which included the high mobility alkyl substituted phthalocyanine materials, high mobility organic semiconductors based on the asymmetric BTBT small molecules, direct arylation polymerization method and novel fused IID based materials. Prof. Zhaohui Wang gave a lecture titled as “The Synthesis and Application in Organic Electronics of Polycyclic Aromatic Imide Materials” and he particularly explained their thoughts on the molecular structural design: simple perylene diimide (PDI) derivatives, flexible connection bond for PDI oligomers and rigid fused PDI derivatives. Prof. Xike Gao reported their recent works on “Application of Azulene and Vinylogous Tetrathiafulvalene in Constructing Organic Optoelectronic Materials”. With the combination of the tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and the naphthalenediimide (NDI), a new fused aromatic building block is obtained an based on which a new n-typed organic semiconductor was prepared. In addition, he reported their recent work on azulene and showed the synthetic challenging work on the diimide derivatives based on azulene unit.
In the 2nd session, Prof. Chuanfeng Chen presented a report on “From Helicene to Chiral Organic Luminescent Materials” and he explained the designing concepts for utilization of the spiral chiral materials firstly. Then, he reported their recent works on the chiral helicene materials with CPL character and high racemic energy barriers, which also have been applied in TADF and OLED. Prof. Zhen Li reported their recent works on “The Modification of the Functionality of π-Molecules through the Structural Adjustment”. He humorously introduced the molecular design strategy in second-order nonlinear materials and how they use the variations at the molecular aggregation to study the mechanical force induced luminescence phenomenain simple molecular systems. Prof. Lei Zhang did his research mainly on polyacene system and gave his report named “Functionalized Polyacenes: Synthesis, Stability, and Device Performance”. He also showed his recent work in the asymmetric NDI system, which are of great promise for n-type materials in organic electronics. Finally, Prof. Hua Wang from Henan University gave a report related to thiophene chemistry titled as “Chemistry for Thiophene Helicene and the Construction for Materials based on Fused Thiophene”, which included their recent studies on the synthesis and properties on fused thiophene, cyclooctatetrathiophene and its double helix.
Through the salon, all the teachers and students have deep understanding of the field of organic electronics and all the experts confirmed the recent achievements in this area made by Henan University. After the salon, Prof. Xianxing Liu the vice-president of Henan University meet these experts.
